Our school commenced as a dream of a handful of committed parents and church members who investigated the possibility and began preparations to commence operations in 1995. Our first intake of 41 students was taught by two teachers in very basic demountable classes on the church site. The facilities were humble, but the pioneering spirit of the families helped them lay the foundation for today’s success.
An opportunity soon arose to purchase the block of land beside the church to build a permanent facility. In 2002, classes moved to the new site and with it came more students and staff. Building continued through the next years to try to accommodate the fast growth. Many new specialist classrooms and facilities have been added in recent years including a science block, music room with adjoining practice rooms, classrooms, staffroom and shade areas. Our school’s multi-purpose centre (MPC) with a full-size indoor basketball court and complete with theatre style sound and lighting was commissioned in 2010 with our blockbuster musical ‘Annie’.
Secondary classes began with the first Year 7 in in 2005 and by 2008 our first students sat their School Certificate. In these years, the technological focus of the school has expanded to include Smartboards and the laptop program. The school took another brave and enormous step in October 2013 when the first students commenced studying Stage 6 HSC subjects. In 2014 the first students sat HSC exams and in 2015 our first cohort will be awarded their completed HSC.
Today, Medowie Christian School is a healthy, thriving educational centre, delivering quality 21st century education for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Further expansion is planned in the coming years as the school builds on its strengths and the master plan and vision gradually become a reality.
